Even a God-King Can Bleed: The Rivers State Crisis Through the Lens of 300

By Chico Mies The confrontation between Leonidas and Xerxes in 300 and the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State share striking thematic similarities, particularly in the struggle between power and resistance.  Leonidas’ quote: “The world will know that a free man stood against a tyrant. That few stood against many. And before this battle was over, even a god-king can bleed.” resonates deeply with the current standoff in Rivers State, where Governor Siminalayi Fubara finds himself at odds with the federal authority following President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency. The Tyrant vs. The Free Man In 300, Xerxes presents himself as an all-powerful ruler, demanding submission from Leonidas and the Spartans. Similarly, Tinubu’s imposition of emergency rule can be interpreted as an assertion of supreme federal power over Rivers State, challenging its autonomy. Fubara, like Leonidas, stands as a figure of defiance, resisting what he and his supporters perceive ...

Eating practices that increase vitality and productivity at work

 By Chico Mies
There are obstacles in the path of being a driven, ambitious professional. You most often deal with long workdays, pressure to meet deadlines, attending meetings, and travelling regularly. Have you noticed, though, that despite whatever challenges or pressures they may encounter at work, some of your coworkers still appear to flourish and do quite well? Occasionally, the key distinction between you and your incredibly productive coworker comes down to who is choosing healthier options. However, what you eat matters, and some eating habits can deplete your energy and make you less effective at work.

Think about the habits you want to adopt and the ones you should break to maintain your energy and enthusiasm throughout the workday.

Prevent Being Dehydrated

Never neglect to sip your water! Numerous physiological functions of the body depend on water. However, consuming too little water results in a low energy state, which makes one feel weak and lethargic and reduces their capacity for cognitive function. Drink plenty of water throughout the day, and pay attention to any signals your body may be sending that suggest you could be dehydrated.

Refuse ultra-processed and junk food.

Foods that have been industrially packed or altered from their natural state, such as confectionery, frozen dinners, chips, canned meat, packaged cakes or desserts, etc., are considered processed foods. Avoiding such things may seem apparent, but the truth is that life is so hectic for many working professionals that it often feels more convenient to go for an unhealthy snack when you're hungry, like a bag of chips. However, you must understand that these selections are low into no nutritional value and may be loaded with harmful trans fats, preservatives, chemicals, salt, and sweets. Consuming large amounts of these foods raises thennational value and may be loaded with harmful trans fats, preservatives, chemicals, salt, and sweets.

Avoid consuming too much caffeine.

Too many working professionals rely on coffee to provide them with the quick energy boost they need to get through the workday. While there are some health benefits to coffee in moderation, too much of it can cause major issues with anxiety, insomnia, irritability, loss of focus, and even heart palpitations. You can think about switching to green tea, which has somewhat less caffeine than coffee but is still potent enough to give you some energy. In addition to being extremely antioxidant-rich, green tea also includes the amino acid L-theanine, which has a soothing effect and may help lower anxiety during a stressful day.

Find some "brain food”.

This implies that you should eat more of the "power foods," which support brain health and maintain mental acuity while working. Berries, salmon and other fish high in omega-3 fatty acids, tomatoes, and leafy green vegetables like spinach or kale are a few foods that have been demonstrated to support brain health and enhance memory.

Have a healthy breakfast to help you get through the day.

You might believe that mornings are too hectic to have breakfast, but it's important to start the day off well with a healthy meal. Actually, there is evidence that missing breakfast on a regular basis raises the chance of dying from cardiovascular disease. Therefore, schedule time for breakfast and make sure it contains "good carbohydrates" to keep you feeling energised all day. Whole grain oats, bananas, apples, sweet potatoes, and even Greek yoghurt is a few foods to take into account.

Consistently Exercise Appropriate Portion Control.

Since you are probably a busy professional who works hard all the time, you might take advantage of the little time you have to eat as much as you can. Refrain from consuming a full pack of your preferred snack in one sitting or consuming several portions of the meal being provided during the workplace functionn. Recall that the objective is to provide your body with precisely the correct amount of nutrients to maintain your health, attention, and productivity at work. Steer clear of overindulging your body in unnecessary calories, as this may cause fatigue and sluggishness at work.

The lesson is this: in order to properly feed your body and enable yourself to be as productive as possible at work, you must eat wisely and healthily.
