Bayelsa and Bayelsans Deserve More

By Ben Agadaga
Sen. Douye Diri, Governor Of Bayelsa State, Nigeria

Let me start by praising Governor Diri for his two significant projects that challenge the people of the state of Bayelsa. Nembe/Brass Road and Angiama/Oporoma Road are the projects.

It is necessary to speak the truth. From the time the state was established in 1999 until Governor Diri took office, no governor had ever considered initiating those two significant projects. Maybe it was because of the financial ramifications, or they used their standard justification of rough terrain. However, this man felt it prudent to take on those initiatives and brave the unthinkable.

Yes, you may not agree with his management style or the speed at which he moves projects along to meet deadlines, but you can see for yourself what he has established and is managing.

But given that Bayelsa only has eight LGAs and a population of less than 3 million, we expect the government to take greater action. In addition, we receive 13% derivation and other incentives and rank among the top 5 oil-producing states.

Compared to states that were established at the same time as us and receive lesser funding, our rate of development is slower. This is the place for us as a state, and we most definitely deserve improved social amenities and welfare. The majority of us have visited adjacent States, therefore when you consider what we have here, you can honestly tell yourself that things are not right in Bayelsa.

Every Bayelsan wants to live in a model city that is affluent and where all that one enjoys in other states may be duplicated for the benefit of everyone. Although Bayelsa is not an impoverished state, its citizens live in extreme poverty.

They say that being grateful is an application for more. Your Excellency Sir, although you are making an effort, Bayelsans believe you are capable of more. Since your government determines their next meal, some of your advisors and cabinet members will be reluctant to tell you the truth. You are known as the Miracle Governor because the voice of the people is the voice of God.

We can restore Bayelsa's glory together.

By Chico Mies. The list of the ten poorest countries in the world for 2024 includes South Sudan, which is recognized as the youngest nation globally, having gained independence in 2011. This country faces significant economic challenges, political instability, ongoing conflicts, and inadequate infrastructure that hinder its development.
