Following her forced resignation from a South African pageant due to xenophobic outrage, Chidimma Adetshina became victorious as the 2024 Miss Universe from Nigeria.
Chidimma Adetshina, representing Taraba State, has been crowned the winner of the Miss Universe Nigeria 2024 pageant.
Earlier reports indicated that Adetshina had to withdraw from a beauty pageant in South Africa due to xenophobic reactions and discrimination related to her nationality.
The 23-year-old law student subsequently returned to Nigeria and agreed to compete in the Miss Universe Nigeria 2024 pageant.
Guy Murray-Bruce, the President of Silverbird Group, which organizes the event, announced Adetshina as the winner during the grand finale held at Eko Hotels & Suites in Lagos on Saturday night.
The competition featured a total of 25 contestants.
In a prior interview with ARISE NEWS, Miss Adetshina expressed her belief that her invitation to participate in Miss Universe Nigeria represented a second opportunity to fulfil one of her most significant aspirations in pageantry.
Adetshina remarked, “I am incredibly thrilled; I feel this is a second chance to realize one of my greatest dreams and goals, and I am truly excited. I have always aspired to be a model, although I was not well-informed about pageantry initially.
When questioned about her participation in the pageant had she not received an invitation, she responded, “No, I wouldn’t have, as I would not have known if I was capable of doing so. Additionally, it has been quite some time since I have been in Nigeria. However, I did notice the comments and thought, perhaps this is a sign.”
