INEC Reports 1.3 Million Pre-Registrations as Voter Card Exercise Enters Physical Phase

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says more than 1.3 million Nigerians have completed online pre-registration for voter cards within the first week of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR).

According to a statement on Monday, the online process, which began on August 18, 2025, recorded 1,379,342 applications as of August 24. The exercise will run until August 30, 2026.

INEC’s breakdown shows that 717,856 registrants (52.04%) are female, while 661,846 (47.96%) are male. Youths aged 18–34 years dominate with 860,286 entries (62.37%), while students People account for 374,534 registrations (27.15%). Additionally, 27,089 persons with disabilities (1.96%) have participated so far.

The Commission confirmed that in-person registration has commenced across its 811 state and local government offices, allowing Nigerians to register physically or complete their online applications.

INEC stressed that the CVR is only for citizens aged 18 and above who have never registered before, warning that double registration is an offence. However, registered voters may apply for transfers, replacements of lost or damaged cards, or updates.

While urging eligible Nigerians not to wait until the deadline, INEC expressed confidence that the combined online and physical platforms would ensure wider access ahead of the 2027 general elections.
