The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has advised Nigerians to update their National Identification Number (NIN) details exclusively through its official self-service portal to safeguard their personal information.
In a statement issued on Monday by Kayode Adegoke, NIMC’s head of corporate communications, the commission emphasized the importance of using only the designated platform to maintain data security and integrity.
“To ensure the security and integrity of your NIN data, modifications should only be carried out via the official NIMC self-service portal: selfservicemodification.nimc.gov.ng,” the statement read.
NIMC cautioned against using unauthorized websites for modifications, warning that doing so could expose individuals to identity theft and data breaches. It assured Nigerians that using the official portal guarantees data protection while providing the convenience of making updates remotely.
The commission also reiterated that all NIN modification requests should be directed to the self-service portal for secure processing.
As of November 22, 2024, NIMC reported that 115 million Nigerians had registered for the NIN, reflecting an increase of 15 million from the 110 million recorded in September 2024.
Additionally, on January 14, the commission granted the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) approval to register inmates across 252 custodial centers nationwide for NIN enrollment.
