Barcelona Transfer News: Flick Blocks €80m Chelsea, Man United Move for Fermin López

Barcelona boss Hansi Flick has drawn a firm line in the sand by rejecting huge transfer offers for Fermin López, despite the club’s ongoing financial crisis. According to SPORT, both Manchester United and Chelsea submitted bids worth nearly €80 million in late July for the 21-year-old midfielder.

The size of the proposals forced a serious discussion within the Barcelona boardroom. With the Blaugrana still struggling under La Liga’s salary cap restrictions, some directors felt cashing in on Fermin could resolve a large portion of the club’s financial troubles.

However, Flick intervened directly. The German coach insisted that Fermin was central to his Camp Nou project and refused to sanction his exit. Flick reportedly told the board: while he could accept transfer restrictions under financial fair play, he would “not accept the loss of Fermin.” His determination proved decisive, leading Barcelona to officially reject the Premier League approaches.

This is not the first time Fermin López has drawn interest. Earlier this summer, a Saudi Arabian club offered a lucrative deal, but the young midfielder himself turned it down, making it clear that he wanted to remain at Barcelona regardless of the financial incentives.

Flick’s stance highlights both his confidence in Fermin’s role and his broader vision for Barça’s rebuild. By blocking the move, the coach not only protected one of Spain’s most promising midfielders but also sent a strong message about his commitment to building the squad around young talent.
