By Chico Mies The confrontation between Leonidas and Xerxes in 300 and the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State share striking thematic similarities, particularly in the struggle between power and resistance. Leonidas’ quote: “The world will know that a free man stood against a tyrant. That few stood against many. And before this battle was over, even a god-king can bleed.” resonates deeply with the current standoff in Rivers State, where Governor Siminalayi Fubara finds himself at odds with the federal authority following President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency. The Tyrant vs. The Free Man In 300, Xerxes presents himself as an all-powerful ruler, demanding submission from Leonidas and the Spartans. Nigerian Passport Booklet |
Passports will be issued from a central location in Abuja starting in April 2025.
Nigerians will soon be able to process and receive Nigerian passports from their homes, eliminating the need to physically go to a passport processing centre.
Nonetheless, only Nigerian citizens who are 18 years old or older and individuals seeking to renew their expired passports can acquire the new contactless passports. New applicants must visit a passport processing centre to have their biometrics recorded for their passports.
The unveiling of the contactless passport processing app took place in Abuja on Friday during a stakeholders' forum, as announced by Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Minister of Interior.
It has been learned that the contactless passport processing project, aimed at reducing human contact, is being managed by two Nigerian companies, Irish Smart Technology and New World, who have been testing the process for the last nine months.
The minister clarified that the new technology was implemented to lessen the usual challenges faced by Nigerians in getting a Nigerian passport both domestically and internationally and to protect them from being taken advantage of by intermediaries who create unnecessary obstacles to extort money from them.
Tunji-Ojo revealed that the app was created to meet all the needs for getting a Nigerian passport, making it easy for applicants to get the document quickly.
The minister declared that starting in April of next year, all passport production will be centralized in Nigeria, and no immigration attaché in any foreign mission will have the authority to approve visa issuance.
