João Cancelo has officially completed his medical examinations after joining FC Barcelona, but fans will have to wait a little longer before seeing him back on the pitch. The club’s sporting director, Deco, has confirmed that the Portuguese full-back will not be available for Barcelona’s upcoming fixture due to fitness reasons.

Speaking on the situation, Deco explained that Cancelo has been out of competitive action for some time and needs a short period to regain full match sharpness. While the medical results were positive, the club’s technical team is unwilling to rush the defender back into action without proper preparation.

Cancelo recently arrived at Barcelona on loan from Al Hilal, marking a return to familiar surroundings after previously spending time with the Catalan giants. He has already begun working with the coaching and fitness staff as part of a tailored programme aimed at rebuilding his rhythm, conditioning, and confidence.

FC Barcelona is expected to gradually integrate Cancelo into the squad once he reaches optimal fitness, with the club prioritising his long-term contribution over immediate availability.
