Wike’s Aide Reacts After Sule Lamido Said Jonathan Is PDP’s Best Bet for 2027 Presidency

Lere Olayinka, media aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has responded to remarks by former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, who recently named ex-President Goodluck Jonathan as the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) strongest candidate for the 2027 presidential race.

In a post shared on his official X account on Friday, August 8, 2025, Olayinka accused some PDP members of political inconsistency and ethnic bias.

“Those who because of ethnicity worked against the reelection of Goodluck Jonathan in 2015 are now saying the same Jonathan is PDP’s best bet for the 2027 Presidential Election,” he wrote.

Lamido, speaking in an interview on Politics Today on Channels Television, had urged the PDP to seriously consider bringing Jonathan back as its presidential flagbearer. He argued that Jonathan’s previous presidential experience, governance expertise, and ability to work across party lines make him the most competitive choice for the party in the next general election.

According to Lamido, while any PDP candidate in 2027 could potentially secure broad national backing, Jonathan’s leadership track record gives him a unique advantage. He described the former president as a figure capable of uniting both the party and the country in a period of political tension.

Olayinka’s comments also revived memories of the 2015 presidential election, when Jonathan, then the incumbent and PDP’s candidate, lost to the late Muhammadu Buhari. At the time, several influential PDP members were accused of withholding full support, with some reportedly opposing him on ethnic or regional grounds.
