Barcelona are reportedly in no rush to finalise a new deal for Frenkie De Jong, even though the Dutch midfielder has less than a year remaining on his current contract.
The Catalan club’s leadership is said to be confident in their relationship with the player and sees no reason to accelerate talks or yield to outside pressure. De Jong remains a central part of Hansi Flick’s plans, but negotiations are being approached “with calm and patience rather than haste.”
Part of this strategy is to prevent unnecessary “media noise” that could distract either the player or the squad. Instead, the board aims to address the renewal at the right time, factoring in the club’s overall sporting and financial considerations, and avoiding the kind of tension that arose during last summer’s transfer window.
For now, De Jong is described as “fully committed” to the upcoming season, with the club open to resuming talks in the months ahead without imposing a fixed deadline.
However, the report also warns that such a laid-back approach carries the risk of De Jong leaving as a free agent if no agreement is reached.
