How does Li-Fi operate?

Li-Fi operates as a Visible Light Communications system, where data is transmitted through LED light bulbs. These bulbs emit light pulses that encode information akin to Morse code. This process is imperceptible to the human eye. The key innovation lies in the compatible devices that can quickly interpret this information.

Wi-Fi, or wireless fidelity, was first introduced in 1996. In recent years, advancements such as Wi-Fi 6, 6E, and the early 2023 launch of Wi-Fi 7 have significantly altered our connectivity landscape.


Li-Fi technology facilitates data transmission at a significantly faster rate than traditional Wi-Fi, leading to enhanced speeds. Nevertheless, speed is not the sole critical aspect of a wireless connection. The LiFi Group, a leader in the commercialization of Li-Fi technology and its associated products, has emphasized additional advantages, such as improved security. A representative from The LiFi Group stated to CNET, "One of the primary benefits of Li-Fi is its security, as the signals are restricted to the area illuminated by the light source and do not penetrate walls. * Does not address slow internet speeds from ISPs: If you are subscribed to a slow plan or experiencing throttled speeds from your internet service provider, Li-Fi will not remedy these problems.
